Abstract

Humanity, understood as a whole inhabiting the earth in peace and cooperation with its fellow beings, is embodied in the Stoic ideal of «citizens of the world». Following the Stoics, some saw in Humanity a regulative idea that should serve as a reference point for sovereigns worldwide to achieve happiness on Earth; others, a utopia that only the wickedness of a few prevents from being attained. But assessing the very possibility of this ordered state of the world, without military conflicts, without the exploitation of human beings, and with respect for the environment, requires more than appealing to refined sentiments of excellence or the Manichean view of good and evil; it requires examining how peoples, communities, and states relate to one another and, therefore, the characteristics of migrations (migration: to move from one place to another, to leave/go away). At this moment when Spain has become a crossroads, I will present some possible forms of migration.
