Abstract
The notion of understanding was inversely valued
by phenomenological psychiatry and by Lacanian
psychoanalysis. A careful study of the ideas of both
of them reveals that the symptom is always
considered as incomprehensible, but for
diametrically opposed reasons. Richir has been able
to conceive the articulation of a dimension of
grounding phenomenological understanding that
lies below the symptom and of a symbolic field of
incomprehension that is equally grounding, which
concerns both the constitution of the symptom and
that of subjectivity.
