Abstract

Plato used the term eikasia to refer the lowest form of consciousness: consciousness of the shadows, realm of appearances and simulacra (then, of alienation), that philosophy condemns in the name of a critical view of things. Cinema as object of aesthetics appears, in this sense, as a radical inversion of the platonic perspective. Philosophy get into the cavern again, but not to make the critic of the spectacle projected on the wall, neither of the spectators; philosophy just aims to question the ways cinema problematizes the tensions between real and imaginary, sense and signification, opening space for the free play of the spectator. This work aims to explore some of those cinematographic devices that pursuit the benjaminian dream of an art than join together distraction and critics, pleasure and thought.
