Abstract
Many contemporary artistic approaches
pretend themselves to be subversive. They
would criticize the "established order".
However, undeniable similarities can be ob
served between some of these approaches and
neo-liberal
methods, to the point that
philosophers like Rancière, or Castoriadis,
both allergic to the « post-modern » depoli
tization, denounce in these practices a false
subversion.They are among those relatively
rare, or at least rarely listened to, who ask in
new words and new concepts, old and
traditionnal questions "If art does politics, is it
still art? ". Or," If art meant autonomous
aesthetic experience, does it loose all critical
point of view? ". Their analysis, which has
remarkable similarities with a contemporary
cur-rent of phenomenology (even if they don’t
refer to it) makes it clear that these questions
are based on inoperative concepts. This article
proposes a way of conceiving art which can
avoid false alternatives (« pure art », engaged
art ,etc ..).
