Abstract

This article examines Kant's argument for the synthetic character of mathematics. Based on the later development of mathematics, an oft-repeated objection charges Kant's position with psychologism. However, this interpretation of Kant's point fails to grasp the wider context of his argumentation and, thus, the impossibility of judging, independently of his ontological project, an argumentation that goes beyond the domain of mathematics.
