Abstract
This paper aims to reflect critically on a topic
that affects all those who studying Philosophy,
somehow we have chosen as a way of life
"philosophize", an action that, in my opinion,
should be considered essential in the teaching
of philosophy as a discipline. One of the most
interesting challenges that usually confront
every teacher of philosophy is to try to answer
in an appropriate way to "utility test" imposed
by relatives and / or friends, who presumably
with the best intentions, assert (or interrogate
us, but almost rhetorically) that philosophy is
"useless" or "worthless". In these cases, first of
all, we should stop for a moment and ask what
sense of utility are they assuming? Probably
the sense that the "market society" imposes. In
the present work we offer reasons to think that
the real "utility" or the true "meaning" of
philosophy lies in his criticism and denaturing
power of the natural attitude of the ordinary
citizen. Assuming that it is inherent to the
human condition to think about philosophical
problems, we propose to consider that the role
of philosopher teachers would be to awake in
students the critical and denaturing attitude,
which perhaps, far from being absent, is just
asleep in them as a power that requires
updating.
