Abstract
It is a significant fact that the old matter of the development of a theory of the categories is absent in the work of Hans-‐Georg Gadamer and Paul Ricoeur, the two founding fathers of the philosophical hermeneutics developed in the second half of the 20th century. The question we ask here is: is this absence justified? the waiver of a (hermeneutic) theory of categories does not imply to dispense with an important part of a "ʺhermeneutic ontology"ʺ? In this article we will try to answer this question.
