Abstract
This work analyzes both Ockham and Marsilius of Padua political works against the theory of absolute powers of papacy. It’s theoretical context are the debates around Carl Schmitt’s Political Theology and the centralization and expansion of ecclesial powers known as The Gregorian Reform. The aim of the study is to show the different political positions of the authors as an alternative political theology to the one of Canonic lawyers that defended the almost total submission of temporal powers to the spiritual one represented by the Pope.
