Abstract

This article aims to serve as a basis to history the development of the philosophy of science in Spain during the 20th century. The institutionalization of the philosophy of science in Spain was later than in other Western countries. It was forged from the seventies of the 20th century. We can say that it was one of the fruits of the Transition period, during which Spain fully reintegrated into the international community, also in these academic issues. This does not mean that philosophy of science did not previously exist in Spain. There was throughout the last century. We find it in philosophical and scientific texts. Even journalistic and literary. Consequently, we will divide our exposition into two periods. The first will cover the pre-institutional phase, that is, from the generation of '98 to the last quarter of the 20th century. The second will focus on this last quarter of a century, the moment of the institutionalization and internationalization of the Spanish philosophy of science. The first period requires a plot thread based on generations and great figures, while the story of the second will be structured by reference to the institutions and people who made them possible.
