Abstract
Before writing «The Library of Babel», Jorge Luis Borges tried unsuccessfully to publish a previous and impossible work. His proposal was rejected by all the publishers, who took him for a madman or a fraud. Not even her old friend, Victoria Ocampo, was able to take her side this time: in a laconic note she alleged a lack of funds and settled the matter.
