The Keystone in the Interpretation of Modernity: Perspectives in Order to Challenge «the Return to Barbarism»

Abstract

Skipping the stages which might solve the cultural lag is a need for the peripheral countries, but they find themselves surprised by several epistemological changes. An event of cultural change to skip the stages demanded a number of dispositives such as guiding fictions, periodizations, categorizations, and documental reconstructions able to confront different fields of knowledge from pre-columbian times up to the present. The linkage between revolutions and the process of elite formation determined codes of collective behavior. Cadastral reconstruction will liberate hidden variables, and will allow the making of ethnographic, cartographic and demographic comparisons.
