The many legacies of Edith Stein

Abstract

There is no doubt that Edith Stein represents, in our days, a figure as attractive as it is complex due to her multifaceted existential itinerary characterized by the presence of different registers both on a personal and professional level. In this article, we highlight the main legacies of Edith Stein to the world 130 years after her birth. In general, we account the legacies considered fundamental due to the power of her proposals, due to their relevance to our current world and due to the reception, that is made of them. The selected legacies are 1) The philosophical legacy, 2) The pedagogical legacy, 3) The feminine legacy and, 4) The personal and spiritual legacy. We hope that during the exhibition of the legacies the reasons for our choice can emerge, as well as the reasons for the inclusion and exclusion of themes in a given legacy, or the absence of some other important legacy that has been overlooked.
