Abstract
The Ian Hacking’s philosophy of classifications is a fruitful tool in the analysis of sexual dissidents and in unravelling the “scientific” treatment of homosexuality. Hacking considered subjects capable of interaction with their own classification, even re-elaborating their memories and establishing survival stategies in the face of specialist discourse. This analysis also permits a reconsideration of layexpert dialogue and the construction of subjectivities for biopolitical reflection. Two previously tested‘meta-concepts’ were of interest in questions of science, power and life, namely the theoretical protagonist and the biographical protagonist. Tension between theory and biography is a well-populated no-man´s land where a philospohical ‘unmasking’of certain scientific discourses is possible. Theoretical subjects were drawn hazily by Scientia sexualis and others were related in the first person (the biographical subjects). An interesting feedback occurs between those constructed from above and those attempting to break through from below. In the biomedical cases of the contemporary Iberian authoritarian regimes, there was a great flexibility and arbitrariness in the classification of dissidents. This was an executive versitility supported by hazy theory and the responses of classified ‘objects’who turned themselves into subjects of resistance and adaptation.
