Abstract
This paper is focused on the vision of war and conflict
defended by the German sociologist Georg Simmel. First of all, I have sketched the theory of conflict as a form of sociability that Simmel presents in his main work, Sociology. Secondly, I have pointed the shift in his point of view (from sociology to philosophy of culture) in the writings of Simmel about the First World War. In the conclusion I offer a criticism of the consequences of this shift in his theoretical view, because his philosophy of culture turned into an ideological justification of war.
