Abstract

The article examines central aspects of the personality and work of Dino Formaggio, who trained at the School of Milan and turned toward phenomenological aesthetics. His research centres on the «idea of artistry», developed to connect phenomenology and aesthetics and apply the phenomenological method to the discipline’s traditional problems, while preserving the spirit of his teacher Antonio Banfi. Formaggio also proposes an original conception of the body: neither a scientific nor theoretical entity, nor the body described by Merleau-Ponty, but a «body at work», understood through its concrete actions and the phenomenology of its experience. This body inhabits a shared space and acts artistically. Art derives neither from genius nor from rhetorical formulas, but is technique: the ability to interpret space and shape possible worlds.
