On the ontological problem in science: an alternative for qualitative research based on Max Scheler

Abstract

Science throughout its history has been founded by multiple philosophical approaches, however, there have been two hegemonic traditions that make up the dualism of qualitative and quantitative research. In this article, in addition to criticizing this dualism, an alternative ontology of qualitative research is proposed that overcomes subjectivist reductionism. To do this, consider Max Scheler conception of reality. In such a new ontology, qualitative science study a world made up of objective and subjective aspects. In this sense, your object of study will be expanded to different possibilities, for example, the intention of explaining, predicting, controlling, exploring and understanding the phenomena of reality.
