Abstract
The book offers a new reading on the latest phenomenological developments coming from France. Their main thesis is that these approaches have in common a fundamental motivation: a reconfiguration the concept of «pheomenon» as an «event of meaning» (Sinnesereignis). This article is the translation of the «Introduction» of the book. The authors paint a general picture of French phenomenology. Then, they refer to Dominique Janicaud’s famous interpretation about the «theological turn» in this movement that they consider partial and insufficient. Lastly, they try to prove the limitations of Janicaud’s diagnosis, by presenting two perspectives, the one defended by Marion and the other defended by Richir. Despite having very different goals, both carry out a transformation of the limits of phenomenality, a topic which is also at the very center of Neue Phänomenologie in Frankreich.
